Gang stealing mobile and embezzling money from UPI busted, four arrested
Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. The police team has succeeded in busting the gang that stole mobile phones and embezzled money from UPI. The police team arrested four criminals and recovered a huge quantity of mobile phones and its parts. The accused who have been arrested include Chahat Kumar, Aman Kumar, resident of Akbarnagar, Saurabh Kumar, resident of Shahjangi Navtolia of Habibpur police station area and Hrithik Kumar, resident of Shahjangi.
The police team has recovered one mobile, two smart watches, one SIM, one memory, four charging sockets, nine camera glasses, two motherboard covers, mother sub-board of nine mobiles, six SIM trays, ringer box of five mobiles, middle display of six mobiles, back panel of five mobiles from them. The police team is interrogating the arrested accused.
It is known that on January 4, 2026, Ritesh Kumar Kushwaha, resident of Chaudhary Tola of Kahalgaon police station area, had complained about stealing the mobile and withdrawing money through UPI. After the case was registered, SSP Hriday Kant formed a police team under the supervision of City SP Shubhank Mishra and under the leadership of Cyber Police Station Head DSP Kanishk Srivastava.
Apart from Inspector Shiv Kumar Suman, Trainee Inspector Prashant Kumar, Amit Kumar, Aslekha Kumari, constables Subhash Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Ravi Kumar were included in the said team. In the course of technical investigation, the team reached the accused involved in the incident and not only arrested them but also succeeded in recovering a large quantity of mobile parts etc.
The police team identified the accused on the basis of transaction ID, IP details and other evidence of the illegally withdrawn amount and reached them.
Chahat, Aman and Hrithik used to steal the mobile and sell it to Saurabh.
Chahat, Amar and Hrithik used to sell the stolen mobile to Saurabh, a resident of Shahjangi. Saurabh used to break the lock of those stolen mobiles and withdraw the money through UPI and distribute the money. During interrogation, the accused admitted that after stealing the mobile and transferring the money through UPI, the mobile was sent outside the state through courier.
