Jagran correspondent, Kanpur. Police will confiscate the property of 105 criminals accused in Gangster Act cases. At the same time, 2361 such cases have come to light in the district, in which even after the charge sheet or final report has been filed, the investigation report has been dumped in the files.

Recently, Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal reviewed the cases of gangsters, cases registered by court order i.e. 156(3) and disposed cases and ordered action on the basis of the facts that came to light.

Investigation underway in 20 gangster cases

At present, 20 cases of Gangster Act are pending for investigation in the police stations of the Commissionerate. Of these, 35 criminals are absconding. 17 have taken arrest stay from the courts. The police have not yet taken any action against the remaining 18. The absconding accused include four in Chakeri, three each in Jajmau, Kalyanpur and Rawatpur, two in Nawabganj and one each in Barra, Naubasta and Kakadev.

The Police Commissioner said that the court has not stopped the investigation in any gangster case. A reward has been declared against all the accused and confiscation proceedings have been initiated. The accused should be arrested under Section 14A of the Gangster Act. During the review, it was found that this process had been stopped for a long time.

949 cases filed in two years due to court orders

The Police Commissioner said that during the review it came to light that in the 24 months from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2025, 949 cases were registered on the orders of the court. Of these, 829 cases have been disposed of. Investigation is still going on in 120 cases.

There are 31 cases in the East Zone, 27 in the West Zone, 45 in the South Zone and 17 in the Central Zone. The Police Commissioner said that he has asked to make a list of such police stations where maximum number of cases have been registered on the orders of the court. These cases will be investigated to find out why the police did not register a case. If the fact that a case has not been registered due to any specific reason comes to light, action will be taken against the concerned police station in-charge.

Even after completion of investigation, files are not being sent to the court

Shocking information also came to light during the review. The Police Commissioner said that he was told that at present the files of 2361 cases at the level of Inspector-in-charge, ACP, DCP are dumped after investigation. Of these, charge sheets have been filed in 1980 cases, while final reports have been filed in 381 cases.

The big thing is that many of these are such cases in which the investigation was completed a year ago. Investigation is being done to find out the circumstances under which the files are not being sent to the court even after the investigation is over.
