Sunil Kumar Giri, Shivhar. Sheohar Sugar Mill: The picture of Sheohar, which is among the most backward and poor districts of Bihar, is about to change. The initiative to establish a sugar mill has started to promote industry and employment in the district. After the efforts of the MP and MLA, the district administration has started searching for 100 acres of land for this.

District Magistrate Pratima Rani said that a proposal has been sought from the government for the establishment of a sugar mill in Shivhar. Under this, suitable land will be identified and sent to the government soon. For this, a meeting of officials of concerned departments has also been called, in which land availability, sugarcane production and other aspects will be discussed.

MLA Dr. Shweta Gupta said that Shivhar is an economically backward district, where there are limited employment opportunities. Establishment of industries is necessary for the overall development of the district. For this purpose, he had written a letter to the Chief Minister demanding the establishment of a sugar mill, on which the government has shown a positive attitude.

There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm among the sugarcane farmers of the district after the start of the sugar mill initiative. This will increase the area under sugarcane cultivation and farmers will be able to get fair price for their produce. Besides, new employment opportunities will also be created for the local youth.

It is noteworthy that earlier the Riga Sugar Mill of Sitamarhi was an economic support for the farmers of Shivhar, Muzaffarpur and East Champaran. Sugarcane cultivation was affected after its closure in the year 2020. However, with the restarting of the mill last year, the interest of farmers has increased again.

At present, sugarcane is being cultivated in about seven to eight thousand acres in Sheohar district, which is likely to increase further in the coming years. Purnahiya, Piprahi and Dumri Katsari areas have been the major centers of sugarcane production.

Nagendra Prasad Singh, founder of Eekhotpadak Sangh, said that Sitamarhi-Shivhar area is very suitable for sugarcane cultivation. With the introduction of new varieties, production has also increased three times. In such a situation, establishment of sugar mill in Shivhar will prove to be very beneficial for the farmers.

Social worker Parveen Kumar Mantu said that Shyampur Bhatahan area could be a suitable place for a sugar mill. It is adjacent to East Champaran, which will benefit the farmers of both the districts.

The administration believes that the establishment of the sugar mill will not only strengthen the agriculture sector but will also bring positive changes in the economy of the district and Shivhar will move forward on a new path of development.
