Big News Regarding Sugar! 5.5% Decline In Production Estimates, Will Prices Increase In The Festive Season?

New Delhi. Industry exit ISMA on Wednesday said India's sugar production estimate for marketing year 2025-26 has been cut by 5.57 per cent to 32.4 million tonnes, citing lower production in top producing states Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. The third advance estimate, released after the executive committee meeting, comes after the second estimate of 3 crore 43.5 lakh tonnes.

Last year the production was 2 crore 96.2 lakh tonnes. After 31 lakh tonnes is used for ethanol, the net availability will increase from 2 crore 61.2 lakh tonnes to 2 crore 93 lakh tonnes in the year 2024-25. ISMA said the total availability, including the opening stock of 50 lakh tonnes, is 34.3 million tonnes, much higher than the domestic consumption of 28.3 million tonnes.

ISMA has estimated exports at 7,00,000 tonnes and remaining stocks at 53 lakh tonnes. Net production in Maharashtra is estimated at 1.06 crore tonnes, in Uttar Pradesh 92.5 lakh tonnes and in Karnataka 48.4 lakh tonnes. All have been revised downwards but are reported above last year's levels.
