State Bureau, Mumbai. Political temperature has heated up after a video of offering Namaz inside a government office in Malegaon, Maharashtra went viral on social media. Expressing strong objection to this incident, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has written a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding immediate disciplinary action against the guilty employees.
On Wednesday, a video of some employees and local people offering Namaz inside the Electricity Department office of Malegaon Municipal Corporation surfaced. In the video, people are seen praying in groups inside the government office.
This incident happened when some people had reached the office with their problems during the month of Ramzan and when it was time for afternoon namaz, they offered namaz there. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has described this behavior as 'illegal and against the decorum of a government workplace'.
'Government offices will not become prayer places'
He wrote on internet media platform X that government offices cannot be converted into places of prayer. Somaiya said that I have spoken to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and police officials. Use of government properties for religious purposes is a violation of administrative discipline and FIR should be lodged against those responsible for it.
The war of words between the ruling party and the opposition has also intensified over this incident. Maharashtra Minister Nitish Rane and Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad have also expressed strong objection to this. Gaikwad said that administration and religion should be kept separate. If someone wants to offer Namaz, he can go to the mosque, but a government office is not the right place for this.
On the other hand, some local people say that they were waiting for the officials and since it was time for Namaz, they offered Namaz there.
