Jagran correspondent, Pilibhit. The huge decline of 30 percent in GST tax on pesticides business in Bareilly division has alarmed the government and administration. To detect tax evasion, the department has started raids by identifying suspicious firms in Bareilly division.

On Tuesday, action was taken against farmer traders based in Pilibhit's Mandi Committee under the leadership of GST Deputy Commissioner Anirudh Singh. The team simultaneously raided two warehouses and the main shop of the firm. Matching of records and stock continued till late night. Investigation revealed that this firm of shop owner Meenu Verma had sold goods worth about Rs 83 crore in the last five years, on the basis of which tax of Rs 9 crore was being made.

However, tax paid by the firms was mainly through ITC input tax credit and cash tax payment was found to be very low. In the initial investigation, many e-way bills have also been found missing, regarding which the shop owner's advocate has assured to make them available soon.

Deputy Commissioner K said that the investigation itself has revealed tax evasion of about Rs 36 lakh. The departmental team is now investigating by taking possession of all the bills, vouchers and stock register of the last five years. The government has specially identified such shops whose sales are in crores, but the tax deposited in the government treasury is very less.

However, the shop owner argues that in some cases DRC has made procedural reforms, but the department is saying that the final position will be clarified only after physical verification of the stock and matching of papers.

Raids are being conducted in the division regarding the huge 30 percent decline in GST tax in the pesticides business. To detect tax evasion, the department has identified suspicious firms and relevant action is being taken where tax manipulation is seen.
