State Bureau, Patna. Three-tier Panchayat elections will be held with new technology. Taking importance, the State Election Commission has decided to conduct Panchayat and Municipal body elections with multi-post EVM for the first time. Under this, voting will be held simultaneously for six posts of Mukhiya, Sarpanch, Panch, Ward Member, Panchayat Samiti Member and Zilla Parishad Member through a single machine.
For this revolutionary step, the Commission has given an order to Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Hyderabad to manufacture more than 32 thousand multi-post EVMs. According to officials, all the machines will reach the Commission by April 2026.
After the arrival of EVMs, comprehensive training will be given to the Returning Officers (ROs), Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), Polling Officers and other personnel in the entire state on the commissioning of the machines (setting the names of candidates, election symbols, sequence etc.).
Along with multi-post EVM, power pack, totalizer machine and detachable memory module are also being purchased. The biggest feature is that after a few hours of counting of votes in one phase, the machine can be reset and used in the second phase of voting.
This will save time and resources. Till now, Panchayat elections in Bihar have been conducted with the old M-3 machines of the Election Commission of India, in which separate voting was done for one post.
