Women drivers needed for pink buses in Bihar
Jagran correspondent, Aurangabad. 225 women drivers will be reinstated for the 100 pink buses currently running in Bihar. While addressing the encouragement cum incentive program of pink bus drivers at IDTR located in Jasoiya of the city on Sunday, Transport Minister Shravan Kumar said that a total of 100 buses are being purchased by Bihar State Road Transport Corporation and are being operated from May 2025 in the state.
Every item has been made available in the buses for the convenience of women. 30 pink buses are being operated from Patna, 20 from Muzaffarpur, 15 from Darbhanga, 10 from Bhagalpur, 15 from Gayaji and 10 from Purnia.
Requirement of 225 women drivers
He said that when he took charge as the Transport Minister, he instructed the officials that pink buses should also be operated by women drivers only. Under the same, this training program has been started. 225 women drivers are required.
Training of 19 people has been started in IDTR, Aurangabad. After one month's training they will be given to drive the bus. He said that now the drivers and conductors of all pink buses will be women only.
Traffic training to 21 female and 50 male constables
The Transport Minister said that through pink buses, women are being provided a respectable place in the society and the facility of dependent transportation for daily activities. In the training programme, traffic training is being given to 21 female and 50 male constables.
Hostel will be constructed in IDTR
On the demand of women drivers taking training, the Transport Minister directed the officials to take necessary action for construction of hostel in IDTR in Aurangabad. He said that the women taking training while staying here should not face any kind of problem. To provide facilities for living in the campus itself, construction of a hostel is necessary.
Minister rides on pink bus
Women undergoing training at IDTR drove the bus on which the minister rode. Bihar's first female cab driver Archana Pandey and the one undergoing training Ragni Kumari took turns driving the bus which was ridden by ministers, MLAs and officials.
