Jagran correspondent, Patna. In view of the cases of bird flu (avian influenza) in Darbhanga, precautions have been increased in the capital also.
Dr. Kaushalendra Kumar, Assistant Professor, Bihar Animal Husbandry University, said that bird flu is an infectious viral disease, which mainly affects birds, but if carelessness is taken, its danger can also reach human health.
Bird flu virus spreads rapidly in domestic birds like chicken, duck, turkey etc. The disease is spread to other birds through direct contact with infected birds, their feces, feathers or secretions.
Therefore, poultry farm operators and those rearing poultry in rural areas should take special precautions. He said that cleanliness is the most important measure to prevent bird flu.
Disinfectants should be sprayed regularly in poultry farms. Control the entry of outsiders and make it mandatory for farm workers to wear gloves, masks and shoes.
If you notice sudden death, lethargy or decline in egg production of any bird, immediately inform the animal husbandry department or the nearest veterinarian.
Dr. Kaushalendra Kumar told that well-cooked chicken and egg are completely safe. Avoid eating raw meat or undercooked eggs and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen.
He said that there is a need not to panic about bird flu, but to remain alert. The spread of this disease can be prevented through timely information, proper management and public awareness.
Main symptoms of bird flu in birds
If symptoms appear, isolate the birds, do not touch the dead birds and immediately inform the local administration along with the veterinarian.
