JNN, Mumbai. A fight in a Mumbai local train ended a family's happiness forever. Mathematics professor Alok Singh was returning home to celebrate his wife's birthday, but on the way he lost his life in a stabbing inside the train. Now the family has raised serious questions on the police action and delay in treatment.
Accident happened on birthday
Alok Singh, who was a mathematics professor at a college in Vile Parle, lived with his wife Pooja Alok Singh in Pratapnagar SRA Society, Kurar village in Malad East. Both of them were married for three years and were living in a rented flat.
Pooja Singh told that on the occasion of her birthday, both of them had decided to go out for dinner. Alok had left college an hour earlier that day. Usually he reached home at 6.30 pm, but that day he reached Malad at 5.30 pm.
After some time, Pooja got a call from the police and was told that Alok was injured in a train accident and he was called to the hospital. On reaching the hospital, Pooja came to know that her husband had died.
truth hidden from family
Pooja Singh said that initially the family members hid the truth from her and told that Alok died in a train accident. After the funeral they were told that Alok had been murdered.
Pooja said, "All my happiness has been taken away. Whoever killed my husband should be given the harshest punishment." Alok's father Anil Singh is an NSG commando and is posted under the security of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
pain of sister and relatives
Alok's sister Pooja Sandeep Singh said that her brother was of a calm nature and did not quarrel with anyone. "We don't understand why someone would stab him," he said.
Family relative Sheela Singh told that Alok was an MSc degree holder and a very intelligent person. "Why someone got so angry that they took our son's life is beyond comprehension," he said.
Question on delay in treatment
The family alleges that if timely treatment had been received, Alok's life could have been saved. Family members say that after being stabbed, Alok was kept sitting on the platform for about half an hour and he was alive for about an hour.
The family raised questions as to why the security arrangements at the station were weak, how sharp weapons were brought in the train and why the ambulance did not reach on time.
Railway Police senior inspector Datta Khupekar rejected the allegations of delay. He said that there was no delay due to any kind of process. According to him, the ambulance arrived 15-20 minutes late due to traffic, then it took time to shift the patient into the ambulance and take him to the hospital.
Timeline as per railway records
According to the Railways, while alighting at Malad station, there was a fight at the gate and during that time Alok Singh was attacked.
