Entertainment Desk, New Delhi. French actress and singer Brigitte Bardot, an important figure of European cinema and popular culture, has died at the age of 91. Bardot was best known for her roles in films and musicals, but she also began working for animal rights in the last years of her life. His career began in the 1950s.

His death has been confirmed by AFP quoting a statement issued by The Brigitte Bardot Foundation. "The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with great sadness the passing of its Founder and President, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer who gave up her illustrious career to devote her life and energy to the welfare of animals and her Foundation," the statement said.

Bardot gained global recognition with her performance in the 1956 film And God Created Woman, which was directed by her then-husband Roger Vadim. For twenty years, she was largely regarded as the archetypal sex kitten, a term that defined her image both on and off the screen. In the early 1970s, Bardot stepped away from acting and increased her involvement in political and animal welfare work.

Born in Paris in 1934, Bardot grew up in a traditional Catholic family and trained as a dancer at the Conservatoire de Paris. By the age of 15, she appeared on the cover of a magazine, which gave her initial opportunities in films. Her burgeoning career included roles such as the lead role in Doctor at Sea and culminated with And God Created Woman, which catapulted her to international stardom.

Bardot married four times and had several famous relationships, including relationships with Jean-Louis Trintignant and Serge Gainsbourg. He is survived by his son Nicholas.
