Budget 2026: Train 3000 1st AC ticket will be available for ₹ 1500, government can give this gift again in the budget

New Delhi. This time in the Union Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman can make a big announcement regarding train tickets for senior citizens. According to sources, Indian Railways is considering reviving the long-standing senior citizen concession, which was suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If it is approved once again, then a ticket worth Rs 3000 can be available for just Rs 1500.

According to media reports, discussions were held in this regard between the Finance Ministry and the Railway Ministry before the budget. If this is approved, men aged 60 years and above and women aged 58 years and above will once again be able to buy train tickets at concessional fares.

How much discount was available before the Covid period?

After the arrival of Covid in 2020, the discount given in tickets to senior citizens by Indian Railways was abolished. Till the pre-Covid period, Indian Railways used to give 40 and 50 percent discount respectively on all types of train tickets to male passengers of 60 years of age and above and female passengers of 58 years of age and above. But this system was abolished during the Covid period.

Now the central government can announce it again in the budget this time. This facility was applicable in almost all classes, which included Sleeper, Third AC, Second AC and First AC. If this system is implemented again, then women aged 58 years and above will get tickets at half price. If the ticket is worth Rs 3 thousand then it will be available for Rs 1500 only.

At the same time, if men of 60 years of age or above get 40% discount on any type of train ticket, a ticket worth Rs 3,000 will be available for Rs 1,800.

What had to be done to avail the benefits?

While booking tickets, only age had to be entered, and no card or separate process was required. This facility was available both on the IRCTC online platform and railway counters.
