Cabinet approves Delhi Metro Phase-V(A)

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government has taken a big step towards strengthening and modernizing the public transport system of the capital. Metro Phase-V (A) has been approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. He informed that under this ambitious project, three new corridors with a total length of 16 kilometers will be developed, which will include 13 metro stations. The estimated cost of the entire project is Rs 12,014.91 crore, of which the Delhi government's budgetary share has been fixed at Rs 2,940.46 crore. This project is targeted to be completed in the year 2028.
The Chief Minister has thanked the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for this important project and said that this project is a big step towards implementing the Prime Minister's '7-C vision' related to the transport system, which means - Common, Connected, Convenient, Congestion-free, Charged, Clean and Cutting-edge transport.
The Chief Minister said that strengthening public transport is essential to achieve the goals of environmental protection and net-zero emissions and this expansion will prove to be a milestone in this direction. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the Delhi Government is committed to making the capital world class and pollution free as per the vision of the Prime Minister. Also, it is working shoulder to shoulder with the Center to make the transport system integrated and people-centric to fulfill their resolve of 'Developed India'.
Describing this decision as an investment in the future of Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the construction of these new corridors will not only reduce the pressure on traffic but will also help in controlling pollution. The three corridors approved include RK Ashram to Indraprastha (via Central Vista), Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj and Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Domestic Terminal-1 (IGD T-1).
Of the total 13 stations to be built, 10 stations will be underground and 3 stations will be elevated. This extension will facilitate seamless interchange with the existing metro network and further improve connectivity between the airport, commercial centers and residential areas. The government aims to provide a clean, efficient and integrated transportation system to citizens by reducing dependence on private vehicles.
R. Of. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha Corridor
The most important corridor of Phase-V(A) is R. Of. Ashram route is proposed to Indraprastha, the total length of which is 9.913 kilometers. 9 stations are proposed on this line. This corridor will pass through the Central Vista area and will directly connect the administrative, cultural and historical areas of Delhi to the metro network. The Central Vista Corridor will also serve to connect all the duty buildings. This will make it easier for government employees and people visiting this area to reach their offices directly. About 60 thousand employees and about 2 lakh passengers will benefit from this facility every day.
Apart from this, this corridor will help in reducing pollution and use of fuels like petrol and diesel, which will make people's life more comfortable and convenient. From this corridor R. Of. Major and extremely important places like Ashram Marg (under construction), Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, CCS Buildings, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha will be directly connected to the Metro. This corridor will not only enhance passenger convenience but will also facilitate access to national events, administrative activities and tourist destinations. A total of Rs 9,570.40 crore will be spent on this corridor. Out of this, Delhi government will spend Rs 2,337.24 crore.
Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 Corridor
The second important corridor of Phase-V(A) is proposed from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport Terminal-1 (IGD T-1). The length of this corridor is 2.26 kilometers and one station is proposed on it. This corridor will prove to be extremely useful for air passengers and will ensure direct, fast and uninterrupted access of metro to the airport. This will reduce dependence on private vehicles and taxis and reduce traffic pressure in the airport area. The cost of this project will be Rs 1,419.64 crore, of which the Delhi government will contribute Rs 351.86 crore.
Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj corridor
The third corridor of Phase-V(A) is proposed from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. The total length of this corridor is 3.9 kilometers and 3 stations are proposed on it. This corridor will provide better metro connectivity to the areas of South and South-East Delhi and make commuting more seamless for local commuters. The cost of this corridor will be Rs 1,024.87 crore, of which Rs 251.36 crore will be borne by the Delhi government.
Metro expansion is the basis of overall development: CM Rekha Gupta
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the expansion of Delhi Metro is an important basis for the overall development of the capital. The existing network and the new corridors proposed under Phase-V(A) will make the transportation network of Delhi and NCR more efficient, safe and environment-friendly. The Chief Minister said that with the expansion of Metro, passengers will get easy and timely travel facility, traffic pressure on the roads will reduce and effective control on pollution caused by vehicles will also be possible. The Delhi government is continuously strengthening public transport with the aim of making the capital a world-class city and this expansion of the metro network is a concrete step in this direction.
