Vehicle thief caught by Chandigarh Police.
Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. Chandigarh Police has achieved great success by busting a gang involved in stealing cars in the Tricity. Three criminals including the mastermind have been arrested and five stolen cars have been recovered from their possession. The thieves have been identified as 44-year-old Deepak Khanna alias Tushar, 37-year-old Akash Malhotra and 25-year-old Deepanshu, all residents of Delhi.
Police investigation has revealed that Deepak Khanna is the mastermind of this gang, who used to unlock cars with the help of tablet device. After this his companions used to run away with the vehicle. The stolen cars were handed over to a person named Gurmeet Singh alias Kala, who used to sell them in Delhi and Mansa area of Punjab.
According to police records, Deepak Khanna has been involved in many vehicle theft cases in the past also. Dozens of cases are registered against him at various places including Chandigarh, Delhi, Kurukshetra and Karnal. Whereas no criminal record of the other two has come to light yet.
Deepak Khanna's remand was obtained by presenting all three accused in the court, while Akash Malhotra and Deepanshu have been sent to judicial custody. Police say that further investigation is going on in the case and there is a possibility of recovery of more stolen vehicles.
Kuldeep Singh, resident of Sector-42B, Chandigarh, had given the complaint.
This action was taken in the case registered on January 9. Kuldeep Singh Brar, resident of Sector-42B, had complained that his white colored Hyundai Creta car was stolen from outside his house. The incident was captured in CCTV camera.
On the instructions of SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, a special team of Sector-36 police station was formed. The team took the investigation forward on the basis of technical evidence and intelligence and arrested three criminals from Delhi.
During interrogation, a stolen Hyundai Creta car, I-20 car, two Hyundai Creta cars, a Toyota Fortuner car and the stereo of the car were recovered at the behest of the accused. The complainant's Aadhaar card and Central Bank of India check book have also been recovered from the accused.
