Congress state president Tariq Kara asked questions to the government in the assembly.
State Bureau, Jammu. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Kara has raised questions on the government's decision to take new loans under the Special Assistance to Capital Investment in States (SASK) scheme.
He claimed that an amount of about Rs 1 lakh crore is still lying unused. During the budget discussion in the Assembly, Kara said that till now only 12 percent of the total budget has been spent as capital expenditure. He asked why the government was taking additional loans when such a huge amount was already available.
Kara said that if such a huge amount has not been utilized then what is the point in taking a new loan. He also expressed concern over the government's financial management and development priorities.
Debt can impose additional financial burden
The state Congress chief warned that rising debt could put additional financial burden on Jammu and Kashmir. He also demanded the government to clarify what its plan is regarding the utilization of existing funds and effective implementation of development projects.
Kara said capital expenditure plays an important role in infrastructure development and employment generation and there is a need for better utilization of resources allocated for it.
He said that he has a serious apprehension that the properties of Jammu and Kashmir can be snatched away through private companies in the name of Saski Loan Scheme. While demanding clarity from the government on this issue in the Assembly, he said that there is concern and confusion among the people regarding the provisions of the scheme.
