Vehicles collided on KMP Expressway. Awakening

Jagran correspondent, Bahadurgarh. Dense fog was not the only reason for the vehicle collision on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway on Saturday morning. A container truck was in the wrong lane, i.e. the main lane, which is meant for high-speed vehicles. Heavy vehicles have to move in the second lane.

That is why the speed limit is different for heavy and light vehicles. On Saturday, the container truck was moving in the main lane, which the driver of the car carrying the doctor couple's family could not see in the fog. By the time he showed up, the car had already gone under the truck.

Dr. Rajesh, owner of a hospital in Assandh, Karnal, his wife Dr. Meenakshi, family members and police constable Joginder posted on security duty were traveling in the car. There were three accidents on KMP in Bahadurgarh area alone. Till Saturday afternoon, a total of 22 injured people, including people from Karnal, were brought to trauma centers due to road accidents.

Due to these incidents, there was a long traffic jam on KMP and many vehicles were stuck for a long time. Although the likelihood of accidents increases in foggy conditions, and accidents often occur on roads where vehicles travel at high speed, the KMP is particularly sensitive. However, fog is not the only cause of accidents; Negligence of one or more drivers also contributes to this. This is exactly what happened on Saturday morning.

Heavy vehicles found in the main lane on KMP are often fined. Along with imposing fines, the police also run awareness campaigns. Warning signs for heavy vehicle drivers have also been installed at KMP, but drivers still do not follow the rules.

One out of every four heavy vehicles will be found moving in the main lane. Nowadays it is foggy season. In such a situation, these heavy vehicles running in the main lane become the cause of major accidents. One reason is that the driver of a speeding vehicle coming from behind is unable to see the heavy vehicle in the fog.

Second, when they see him, they are forced to overtake on the wrong side. In this situation also the possibility of accidents increases.

Lack of lights on KMP, but no improvement

The issue of maintenance of lights at KMP is also an old one. There is never a time when all the lights are working on this expressway. Some lights are always found to be faulty. When the lights at one place are fixed, the lights at another place get damaged. This issue was also raised in the recently held road safety meeting.

The management team's response was that at some places, owners of nearby farms cut the wires of the lights. This causes problems. This logic is quite strange. Although KMP traffic police had also raised this issue in the road safety meeting, there has been no improvement.

Staff arrived immediately to bring the injured and treat them.

After receiving information about the accidents on Saturday morning, KMP rescue team and KMP traffic police team reached the spot. Meanwhile, when news of the accidents reached the Civil Hospital, the staff was already alerted. Additional doctors and nursing staff were deployed. As soon as the injured were brought, the department staff immediately started treating them.

From morning to afternoon, 22 people injured in road accidents were brought to the trauma centre. Barring a few, all the rest were brought from KMP as the vehicles collided at three different places. Those who were seriously injured were immediately referred. The family members of the Karnal doctor suffered the most serious injuries.

Heavy vehicle drivers driving in the main lane on KMP are fined. In Saturday's accident, the container truck was in the main lane. That's why the safari car ran under him in the fog. Patrolling has been increased on KMP to remove vehicles parked on the road. Drivers must follow all rules on the road. As far as shortcomings of KMP are concerned, they are raised in road safety meetings.
