State Bureau, Chandigarh. Shatrujit Kapoor, who has been the Director General of Police of Haryana, will also be known for power reforms in the state. Till now, the only thing that has been said about him is that while holding the post of Director General of Anti Corruption Bureau, Shatrujit Kapoor targeted the corrupt officers and employees, but when the state government assigned him the responsibility of working in civil departments instead of police, Kapoor completely lived up to it.
While being the chairman of power companies, Shatrujit Kapoor has played an important role in fulfilling the government's mission of providing 24-hour electricity to about five thousand villages of the state. 1990 batch IPS officer Shatrujit Kapoor has now got the big responsibility of Director General of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Kapoor's retirement is this year on 31 October 2026.
Kapoor had to step down from the post of Director General of Police due to his name appearing in the suicide case of Haryana IPS Y Puran Kumar. At the behest of the government, he had gone on leave for two months.
The names of 15 IAS and IPS officers, including the Chief Secretary and DGP, were included in the Y Puran Kumar suicide case, but the way this entire episode was given a casteist color, Shatrujit Kapoor and Karnal's current SP Narendra Bijraniya had to face opposition. Shatrujeet Kapoor is counted among the tough and responsible officers of the state. He was always the target of those officials who were involved in corruption somewhere. The problem before the government was that if all the officers involved in corruption were removed, then how would the system run. In such a situation, no concession was made to the more corrupt officials.
Some officers first went to the High Court and then to the Supreme Court, where the Anti Corruption Bureau's action against them was upheld. Kapoor was given the responsibility of non-policing work for the first time by the then Chief Minister Manohar Lal.
Kapoor is originally from Jind and has been the Director General of Police in the state for more than two years. After Kapoor returned from leave, he was appointed chairman of Haryana Police Housing Corporation.
When Shatrujit Kapoor took over as the chairman of Haryana's electricity companies, 24-hour electricity was provided to only 105 villages in the state, but Kapoor did a great job of extending it to 5300 villages. Today, 24 hours electricity is available in six thousand villages. During his tenure, the electricity department achieved a profit of Rs 400 to 550 crore every year for four and a half consecutive years.
20 thousand rupees electricity subsidy in Punjab, 6 thousand crore rupees in Haryana
Earlier the subsidy given to farmers used to increase at the rate of 11 percent every year, but Shatrujit Kapoor kept this subsidy at only six thousand crore rupees by reducing line loss, stopping electricity theft and purchasing cheap electricity, whereas in Punjab, about Rs 20 thousand crore subsidy goes to this sector.
While serving in the Transport Department, Kapoor has given concrete shape to the scheme of e-ticketing and Happy Card. As ITBP chief, Shatrujit Kapoor will lead the Himveers deployed amid the ongoing tension with China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Development of infrastructure in high altitude areas and further strengthening of border surveillance will be the main priorities of his tenure.
