Jagran correspondent, Moradabad. Cyber fraudsters have now started adopting new methods of cheating. By misusing (Artificial Intelligence) technology, fraudsters are targeting industrialists and women from affluent families. Photographs of women are being taken from internet media and converted into obscene forms and then women are being blackmailed by sending the same photographs.
Due to fear of defamation, most of the victimized women are not able to reach the police, which is being taken advantage of by the thugs without any fear. The fraudsters first download public photos of women from internet media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. After this, with the help of AI based software, those pictures are given an obscene and objectionable form.
Then these fake photographs are sent to the women and they are threatened that if they do not pay a huge amount, these photographs will be circulated on the internet media or sent to their family and acquaintances. Many such cases have come to light in Moradabad, in which the victimized women remain silent due to mental stress and fear of social stigma. In many cases, thugs have demanded lakhs of rupees.
It is being told that the wives of industrialists and businessmen are being specifically targeted because the swindlers expect to get huge amounts of money from them. Police say that due to AI technology becoming easy and cheap, such crimes are increasing rapidly. It has become difficult for the common man to differentiate between real and fake photos. This is the reason why the threats of thugs are having more impact.
Incident number one: A girl from Mughalpura area had posted some of her photos on Facebook. Meanwhile, the thugs took those photos from Facebook and then made them obscene through AI and sent them with the girl. Later he started threatening to circulate the photo. The thugs grabbed around Rs 1 lakh by threatening to circulate the photo. The girl did not inform anyone about this due to fear of defamation.
Incident number two: A woman resident of a locality in Majhola area had uploaded photos on her Instagram about three months ago. The thugs took photos from the woman's Instagram and made them obscene and sent them to the woman. Later the accused started demanding money from the woman. The woman gave about Rs 50 thousand, but even after this she asked for more money. In such a situation, the woman complained about this matter to the police. The police had registered an FIR.
Women should be careful while uploading their photos on internet media. Photos are being tampered with through AI. Police is searching for the accused who did this.
