Incomplete escalator at Ara Junction becomes a problem
Jagran correspondent, Ara, (Bhojpur). The escalator installed for the convenience of passengers at Ara Junction under Danapur Railway Division has now itself become a cause of trouble, because this machine installed on platform number four of the station has been lying incomplete for months and has not been started till now. This facility, installed at a cost of lakhs of rupees, is gathering dust, whereas it should have benefited from the movement of thousands of passengers every day, but the situation remains the same and questions are being raised on the claims of the Railways.
Despite being a major station, lack of facilities
Ara Junction is a major railway station of Shahabad region, where passengers from many districts including Bihta, Arwal, Chhapra and Siwan travel and sees a large number of people moving every day. The crowd increases further during festivals and special occasions, in such a situation the only option left is the foot over bridge to change the platform, as non-functioning of the escalator further increases the problems of the passengers.
Elderly, women and disabled people are most affected
The installation of an escalator on platform number four had raised hopes that elderly, women, children and disabled passengers would get relief, but their problems have not diminished due to the machine being closed. Climbing the stairs with heavy luggage becomes a big challenge for them and many times passengers are seen somehow crossing the platform by taking support of each other, due to which both inconvenience and resentment are increasing.
Incomplete announcements on other platforms also
Railways had also announced the installation of escalators on platforms number one and two, which gave hope to the local people and regular passengers that modern facilities would soon be available, but till now neither the escalator has been installed nor any clear information has been given in this regard, due to which dissatisfaction is increasing among the passengers.
Passengers demanded immediate action
Local traveler Rajesh Kumar says that the Railways gets a good amount of revenue from Arrah Junction, yet the station seems to be lagging behind in terms of basic facilities. Passengers have demanded from the railway administration that the escalator installed on platform number four should be started immediately and the installation of escalators announced on platform number one and two should be ensured soon, so that the passengers can get relief and can actually avail the benefits of the facilities at the station.
