Migrant laborer beaten to death in Pune for speaking Bengali language

State Bureau, Jagran, Kolkata. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that a 24-year-old migrant laborer from her state was murdered in Maharashtra for speaking Bengali language. Mamata termed it a 'hate crime' and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

The Chief Minister wrote in a post on X, I am shocked, angry and deeply saddened by the barbaric murder of 24-year-old migrant laborer Sukhen Mahato, resident of Bandwan, Purulia district, in Pune, Maharashtra. He was the only earning member of his family. Mamta said that this is no less than a hate crime.

A young man was targeted, tortured and murdered because of his language, his identity, his roots. The Chief Minister said that this is a direct result of an environment in which xenophobia is used as a weapon and innocent people are targeted.

He demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the accused. The Chief Minister assured the family of deceased Sukhen that the Bengal government is with you in this hour of unbearable grief. No stone will be left unturned to provide justice.
