Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. This racket of cyber fraud with American citizens was not being operated from Gorakhpur, but from Siliguri and Kolkata. The center located at Karimnagar was only the front office of the fraud, while the entire financial handling was in the hands of absconding Raunak.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a member of the network was sitting in America who used to send data of foreign citizens from there. In Kolkata, fake call center setup was prepared on the basis of this data.
According to the police, the defrauded amount received from an associate living in America was earlier transferred to Raunak's accounts. After this, the amount was divided into small parts and withdrawn from different accounts and mediums, so that the transaction does not appear suspicious. With this money, call center rent, equipment, employees' salaries and other expenses were met.
People working at the local level were not allowed to know where the real control was coming from. The investigation has also revealed that the gang deliberately included people from different states in different roles, so that the entire network could not be exposed from any one place. Calling was done from Gorakhpur, data handling was done from Kolkata and money was sent to accounts in Siliguri.

For this reason this gang remained safe from the eyes of the law for a long time. Cyber Cell and Crime Branch teams are now busy in reaching the absconding accused through bank accounts, UPI transactions, mobile location and digital trail. SP North Gyanendra says that as the layers of financial transactions are revealed, the total amount of fraud and the actual number of victims will also be revealed.
