Prater, New Delhi. Have you also been doing the same type of exercise or walk for years to stay fit? If yes, then now is the time to change your habit. A very interesting study has revealed that if you want to live a long life, then sticking to the same routine is not enough. Science now says that bringing 'variety' to exercise is the real key to health. Come, let us know about this in detail.
What does the new research say?
Recently, a research published in the 'British Medical Journal' has proved that people who regularly engage in different types of physical activities (like exercise, walking, jogging etc.) can increase their lifespan.
This study has been done by researchers from America's famous Harvard University and China's Chongqing Medical University. Researchers believe that physical activity has always been associated with good physical and mental health, but it is now clear that a combination of different types of activities can have an even deeper impact on health.
One type of exercise is not enough
The most important finding of this study is that if you engage in a mix of different types of physical activity, rather than doing the same activity or exercise over and over again, your risk of death can be significantly reduced. According to research, it doesn't matter how much time you spend doing activity, the important thing is that you include a variety of exercises in your daily routine.
This study continued for 30 years
The credibility of this research can be gauged from the fact that this study continued for 30 years. It involved a wide range of people:
At the beginning of the study, all these participants were completely healthy and did not have any disease like heart disease, diabetes or cancer. The physical activities of these people were monitored for 30 years.
Difference in preferences of men and women
It was also observed during the study that 'walking' was a very common activity in both the groups (men and women). However, slight differences were also found in exercise methods. Men were more involved in activities like jogging and running than women.
This research tells us that to live a healthy and long life, we should keep changing our fitness routine. The key to longevity is a balance of different activities, rather than just walking or going to the gym.
