Illegal slums re-established in Yamuna Khadar. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, East Delhi. Illegal slums have re-established in Yamuna Khadar of Mayur Vihar in Delhi. This is the situation when DDA had taken action about 10 times in Khadar this year and demolished slums.
People have again built their homes here, flouting the action of DDA. It is not that DDA is not aware of this. It is alleged that illegal slums are being established on government lands in collusion with DDA and local officials and public representatives.
People have set up slums at many places in Mayur Vihar, Yamuna Khadar. It also has some temporary grocery shops. Yamuna Khadar is spread over several kilometers of area. About eight thousand people are living illegally in slums. These are the people who do farming in Khadar. They sell vegetables and other items in residential areas.
They are basically residents of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal. Here huts are also available on rent for Rs 800 to Rs 1500. Mafia people have surrounded the place and slums have been built on it. There is no electricity here. People living in slums are using solar panels. Along with slums, nurseries are also running illegally here.
DDA had launched a campaign between April 22 and 25 in Yamuna Khadar opposite Mayur Vihar to create Mayur Nature Park. Here, bulldozers were used on illegally settled slums and nurseries. In the month of August, Yamuna Khadar was filled with water due to rise in the water level of Yamuna.

Just a few days before this, the administration along with DDA had removed the slums. After that slums were settled here again. In this matter, DDA officials say that action will be taken against slums by running a campaign.
