Sanjeev Gupta, New Delhi. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is going to give a new look to the parks of the national capital. Now these parks will become true "public spaces", where you will get experiences ranging from theater to environmental research amidst greenery.
Under this, DDA under the leadership of LG VK Saxena has joined hands with prestigious institutions of the country like National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi University (DU), Delhi Technological University (DTU) and WWF-India to enliven the lungs of the city.
Theater and research stage will be set up in the park
Now not only the chirping of birds but also the echo of artists will be heard in the parks of Delhi. In collaboration with NSD, free “theatre workshops” will be organized in the parks for children, youth and elderly.
Apart from this, DU students will come to these parks and flood plains of Yamuna to do "Urban Ecological Research", which will open new avenues of understanding nature.
Information about nature hub and medicinal plants will be available
“Asita” built on the banks of Yamuna will be a center of special attraction for nature lovers. Here, "Citizen Nature Hub" is being built in collaboration with WWF-India, where people will be made aware about the environment through nature walk.
At the same time, the National Medicinal Plant Board will prepare such nurseries in selected parks, where information about rare medicinal plants and botanical heritage of India can be available.
Public participation will increase in security and maintenance
DDA currently has around 16,000 acres of green cover, which includes 773 urban parks. There are often complaints regarding the maintenance of these parks and the presence of anti-social elements. DDA believes that when cultural and educational activities increase in the parks, the engagement of common people will also increase.
