Sheshnath Rai, Bhubaneswar. A traditional and auspicious scene was witnessed in the Odisha Assembly ahead of the presentation of the budget for the financial year 2026–27.
Before the budget presentation, Odisha Governor Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati greeted Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi by feeding him 'curd and sugar' at Lok Bhawan. It is seen as a tradition and auspicious sign of the state.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister, who is also holding the responsibility of the Finance Department, discussed the outline, priorities and key points of development of the upcoming budget with the Governor. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, in which special emphasis was laid on the overall development of the state, public welfare schemes and economic strength.
After this, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presented the budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the Odisha Assembly. A total budget of Rs 3 lakh 10 thousand crore was tabled in the House by the state government.
The budget is expected to give priority to sectors like infrastructure development, agriculture, education, health and employment generation.
The meeting between the Governor and the Chief Minister took place at Lok Bhawan, which is the main center of administrative activities of the state. According to tradition, the ritual of feeding curd and sugar before the budget is considered auspicious, so that the budget presented in the House brings prosperity and progress for the state.
It is noteworthy that such traditions before the budget every year in Odisha not only reflect cultural values but also give a message of harmony and coordination between constitutional posts.
