Jagran correspondent, West Delhi. Bindapur police station of Dwarka district has busted a very vicious vehicle theft gang. These accused used to win the trust of people by posing as car mechanics and then used to steal their cars. Police have arrested two active vehicle thieves in this case and recovered 3 stolen cars, an i10 car used in the crime, 9 number plates and hi-tech sensors from them.
According to DCP Ankit Singh, the arrested accused have been identified as Sarwar Ali and Aamir. The method of theft revealed by both of them during interrogation surprised even the police. The accused do car repairing, denting and painting work.
Whenever a customer came to him to get his car repaired, he used to secretly install a GPS device in the car. During this time, a duplicate key of the car was also prepared by calling a key maker. After the car left the workshop, the accused kept tracking the location of the car through GPS on their mobile. As soon as they got a chance, they would steal the car using the duplicate key.
After the car of Mohan Garden resident Reena was stolen on December 8, a team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Naresh Sangwan under the supervision of ACP Rajkumar. The police team scanned the footage of about 250-300 CCTV cameras of the area. A suspicious i10 car was seen in a footage, through which the police reached the warehouse of the accused in Loni, from where they were nabbed.
The accused told that they used to hide the stolen cars in their warehouse located in Loni. There the cars were cut into parts and fitted into other vehicles or sold in the market as per demand. Police have recovered one i20 and two Baleno cars at the behest of the accused. At present, the police is investigating the other 9 number plates so that their receiver can be found out along with other incidents.
