Jagran correspondent, Siddharthnagar. Smuggling of urea fertilizer is becoming increasingly serious in the districts adjacent to the India-Nepal border. The situation is such that within the last ten days, a total of 253 bags of urea fertilizer have been seized from different places in the border area.
Despite this, the courage of smugglers is not diminishing. In the greed of selling urea available in India at a cheaper rate in Nepal, smugglers are adopting new methods every day.
Major seizures are being made continuously during special nakas being conducted by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in collaboration with police and customs department. At some places, fertilizer is being transported through autos and pickups, while at other places, smuggling is being planned by hiding it in bicycles, bikes and bushes.
Smugglers are increasingly choosing the unpaved roads of border villages and the areas around border pillars. Regarding the recovery of fertilizer, people are constantly questioning how urea is going to Nepal on such a large scale. How is the department monitoring the shops?
The continuous recovery of urea clearly indicates that smuggling in the district is being operated under an organized network. SSB says that vigilance and patrolling on the border have been strengthened so that this illegal trade can be effectively stopped.

Smugglers are constantly changing their methods
Study of these cases makes it clear that urea smugglers are constantly changing their methods. The unpaved roads of border villages and areas around border pillars are being used the most. Small vehicles such as autos, bicycles and motorcycles are used to reduce suspicion.
Pickup vehicles are being deployed for larger consignments. In many cases, smugglers first hide the urea in bushes, fields or safe places away from the population. After this, when surveillance is weak or it is dark, they try to take the fertilizer across the border.
Urea is being given to farmers from shops. Not only the farmers of Siddharthnagar are among those sending urea to Nepal, but farmers from outside the district are also engaged in it. Now regular review of shops will also be done to see to whom they have given fertilizer. The urea that has been recovered will also be investigated to find out where it came from.
