The cylinder did not burn even after containing 1.800 grams of gas.
Jagran correspondent, Bathinda. A serious case of negligence of private and government gas agencies supplying LPG gas cylinders in the city has come to light. Due to lack of timely action despite continuous complaints from consumers, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department of Punjab Government has finally issued a show cause notice to Pansup Gas Service Bathinda.
This action has been taken after allegations of negligence and neglect of consumer rights. Although gas pipeline facility has been started in the city, but even today a large number of people are dependent on LPG cylinders. In such a situation, the responsibility of the gas agencies increases further, but it is alleged that in many cases the problems of the consumers are not being taken seriously.
A consumer of Pansap Gas Service, living near Veer Colony on Amrik Singh Road, said that the LPG cylinder installed in his house suddenly stopped last year while on the gas stove. Initially the cylinder was considered empty, but when doubts arose, it was weighed.

During investigation, the total weight of the cylinder was found to be 16.800 kg, while the weight of the empty cylinder was marked as 15.000 kg. That is, despite having about 1.800 kg of gas, the gas was not burning from the cylinder. The consumer complained about this problem to the gas agency in October 2025, but no satisfactory response was received.
After this, on 29 October 2025, a complaint was sent through e-mail to the Chairman of BPCL and other senior officials. Despite sending a reminder on 11 November 2025, no action was taken. Finally, on 2 February 2026, a written complaint was given to DC Bathinda, Food Supply Department and other concerned officials and ministers.

Department issued notice after complaints
After continuous complaints, a show cause notice was issued to Pansup Gas Service by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Bathinda. A copy of the notice has also been sent to BPCL Manager (Sales) Bharat Gas and other officials. The agency has been instructed to provide reply and necessary information within five days.
After the notice was issued, on February 4, 2026, the agency employees reached the consumer's house and checked the cylinder. Even during investigation, gas pressure was not found in the cylinder. The agency has asked to send the cylinder to BPCL plant for testing so that the reasons for non-flow of gas can be found out.
Consumers advised to be cautious
The consumer alleges that despite paying the entire amount, he suffered a loss of about 1.800 kg of LPG gas and no hearing was received from the agency and BPCL for four months. RTI activist and secretary of Jago Grahak Jago, Sanjeev Goyal, terming the matter as serious, has appealed to the consumers to remain alert.
He said that while taking the cylinder, check its weight, take the bill or memo, get the delivery man's signature on the cylinder copy and note down the serial number of the cylinder. He says that only consumer awareness can stop such carelessness.
