Jagran correspondent, Jamshedpur. Uttarakhand shattered the dream of Jharkhand team, which had come to play Ranji Trophy quarter-finals on home ground. In the match played at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur, Uttarakhand entered the semi-finals for the first time by defeating Jharkhand by an innings and six runs. The hero of this historic victory was Mayank Mishra, who took five important wickets in the second innings while weaving his web of spin.
On the third day of the match, when Jharkhand team came to bat in the second innings, the pressure of Uttarakhand's first innings lead of 136 runs was clearly visible. However, captain Virat Singh (55) and Kumar Kushagra (34) showed some fight and at one point the team's score was 100 runs for two wickets. It seemed that Jharkhand could make a comeback in the match, but from here the bowlers of Uttarakhand started wreaking havoc.
Mayank Mishra's deadly bowling
Jharkhand's middle order and lower order completely collapsed in front of Mayank Mishra's lethal bowling. The team lost its last eight wickets in just 30 runs. The entire team returned to the pavilion after scoring 130 runs in 41.1 overs. Mishra took 5 wickets for just 22 runs in 13.1 overs. He was well supported by Abhay Negi, who achieved four successes.
Kunal Chandela's captaincy innings
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, Jharkhand had scored 235 runs in its first innings with the help of Aditya Singh's 83 runs and captain Virat Singh's 47 runs. In reply, Uttarakhand took a strong lead by scoring 371 runs in its first innings, thanks to the half-centuries of Jagdish Suchit (70), captain Kunal Chandela (68) and Avinash Sudha (64), which proved to be decisive in the end. Mayank Mishra was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round performance (8 wickets in the match). With this victory, Uttarakhand has written a new chapter in the history of Ranji Trophy.
