Jagran correspondent, Gurugram. The year 2026 has brought a ray of new hope for Gurugram, which has been struggling with incomplete development projects and frequently changing deadlines for the last few years. This new year may prove to be a year of better facilities for the residents of the city, because many big and ambitious projects of the Municipal Corporation and GMDA have now reached their final stage.
Officials claim that in the coming year, not only long-pending projects will be completed, but new schemes will also be started. This will strengthen the basic infrastructure of the city and there will be significant improvement in traffic, parking, sports and healthcare services.
The new Municipal Corporation Headquarters, which will give a new identity to the administrative structure of the city, is being considered as the biggest project of 2026. This 10-storey state-of-the-art building, being built at a cost of approximately Rs 184 crore, has been a topic of discussion for a long time. Its construction was initially planned at a cost of Rs 129 crore, but due to delays and increasing construction costs, the budget increased significantly. As a result, construction work came to a complete halt for almost a year.
Now, the corporation officials have given clear instructions to the agency that the building work should be completed at all costs by December 2026. The structure of all 10 floors of the building has already been completed, and preparations are underway to rapidly complete the remaining work. After the new headquarters is ready, the municipal corporation offices currently running in different areas will be brought into a single complex. With this, common people will not have to wander for their work, and the administrative system will also become more efficient.
Relief from traffic at Sohna Chowk
The multi-level parking facility being built at Sohna Chowk, one of the busiest areas of the city, is also being considered as one of the big gifts of 2026. This five-storey parking facility, being built at a cost of Rs 54 crore, is now almost complete. It will have parking facility for 230 cars and 190 two-wheelers, which will control the problem of illegal parking that has been going on for years in Sadar Bazaar and surrounding areas to a great extent.
This parking building has three basements, a ground floor and 53 modern shops on the upper floors. The entire complex is centrally air-conditioned and has three lifts. The deadline of the project has been changed several times, but now the Municipal Corporation has made preparations to hand over its operation to a private agency. The parking facility is expected to be opened to the public in early 2026.
Wazirabad Sports Complex will be ready by July 2026
Gurugram is also going to get a big boost in the field of sports. Spread over approximately 11.07 acres, the Wazirabad Sports Complex is rapidly taking shape. This modern sports complex, being built at a cost of Rs 88 crore, is expected to be ready by July 2026. State-of-the-art facilities are being developed here for various sports activities like Kabaddi, Shooting Range, Judo, Boxing, Gymnastics, Basketball and Badminton.
Along with this, a cycling track and a skating rink is also being built for the players. The complex will have a separate parking facility for 175 vehicles to avoid overcrowding during competitions and training camps. Sports lovers believe that the opening of this complex will provide a better platform to the young players of the city to showcase their talent at the national and international level.
Medical college will transform healthcare services
On the healthcare front, 2026 will also bring relief for the city's residents. The construction of Shitala Mata Medical College will provide modern medical facilities to the people of Gurugram and surrounding areas. The opening of the medical college will not only reduce the dependence on Delhi for medical treatment, but it will also give the city a new identity in the field of medical education.
The coming year is very important for the Municipal Corporation. Many big projects which were pending for a long time are now being given priority to complete them within the stipulated time frame. Along with completing the incomplete works, new plans are also being made so that the needs of the city residents can be met on time.-Vijay Dhaka, Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation Gurugram.
