Jagran correspondent, Uttarkashi. The disaster affected people of Dharali gathered at Kali Kamli Dharamshala for the proposed procession and demonstration on Republic Day.
As soon as information about the protest was received, Additional District Magistrate Mukta Mishra and Deputy District Magistrate Bhatwadi Shalini Negi reached the spot and talked to the affected people.
The officials appealed not to protest in view of the national festival and informed about the action taken so far regarding rehabilitation and compensation.
Even after six months, there was huge resentment among the disaster affected people as the process of rehabilitation and compensation did not move forward. During the talks the affected people reiterated their demands.
After this, on the intervention and assurance of District Magistrate Prashant Arya and Chief Minister's Garhwal Coordinator Kishore Bhatt, the disaster affected people postponed their proposed agitation. The officials have assured to take concrete action on all the demands within 15 days.
