Does Our Brain Remain A 'child' Till The Age Of 32? Cambridge Study Broke The Biggest Illusion

Brain development: Shocking truth revealed in new study

Lifestyle Desk, New Delhi. You must have always heard that the brain develops in childhood itself. But this is not complete information. In fact this process continues continuously. According to a new study from the University of Cambridge, scientists have identified five main stages of human brain development.

The study is based on brain scans of nearly 4,000 people and shows that our brains do not change at a uniform pace throughout life, but through four major 'turning points'.

‘Network consolidation’ occurs in the stage from birth to nine years. A child's brain has a large number of connections, which are gradually reduced and only the active connections remain.

By the age of nine, there are major changes in brain function and the risk of mental health disorders also begins to increase at this time. Surprisingly, according to the study, the 'adolescent' development of the brain continues till the age of 32 years. During this period, the white matter of the brain develops, which makes the communication network efficient. The age of 32 is considered the most important turning point of life.

The period from 32 years to 66 years is the longest and stable phase of brain development. During this period the structure of the brain remains largely stable. Experts say that during this period there is stability in a person's intelligence and personality.

Changes in the brain begin again around age 66. This stage is associated with the gradual reorganization of brain networks and loss of white matter, leading to increased effects of health problems (such as high blood pressure) on the brain, which continues until age 83.

After the age of 83 the brain enters the final stage. In this, connectivity further reduces and the brain becomes more dependent on some specific areas for information.
