Jagran correspondent, Varanasi. Dr. Sudhanshu Singh received his graduate and postgraduate degrees with Gold Medal from Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India. Subsequently, he started his career as a Rajasthan State Public Service Commission Officer, where he focused on agricultural extension and seed systems.

Subsequently, he completed his Ph.D. at IRRI Headquarters in the Philippines. where he conducted research on flood-tolerant Sub1 rice. In 2011, he joined IRRI as a Postdoctoral Fellow and has held various positions such as Rainfed Lowland Agronomist, Senior Scientist – Agronomy, and Head of Broader Program of Research and Partnership (BPRP) at ISARC, Varanasi and is taking up his current role as Director of ISARC.

Dr. Sudhanshu Singh has 29 years of extensive experience in agricultural sciences, and is considered a reputed professional in the field. His work includes significant contributions to research, extension and development. As Director of ISARC, Dr. Singh oversees the Centre's operations across South Asia, including promoting cooperation in the South-South context.

They lead and manage the development of research, operations and financial goals, and provide strategic direction to ISARC and its three specialized units: the Center of Excellence in Rice Value Addition (CERVA), the Center of Excellence in Sustainable Agriculture (CESA), and the Center of Education, Innovation and Research for Development (CEIRD).

Prior to his appointment as ISARC Director, Dr. Sudhanshu Singh served as IRRI's Senior Agronomist for South Asia. During this time, he successfully led several important projects, including the BMGF-funded IRRAS project in Bihar, the World Bank-funded APART project in Assam, EC-IFAD-funded projects focused on the management of abiotic stresses, and USAID and BMGF-funded CSISA projects across South Asia. He also played a key role in the BMGF-funded mega project, STRASA.

Dr. Sudhanshu Singh has received many national and international honors. At the national level, he was named as the National Facilitator of the Bountiful Tree Plantation Certificate, 2022, and made a Fellow of the Crop and Weed Science Society. Additionally, he also received the Aus Seeds Corporation Award for Best Plant Manager.

Internationally, he received the Crop and Weed Sci Society (CWSS) Gold Medal and Eminent Scientist Award in 2022. Along with this, he has also been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award-2022 and the Fellow Award of the Indian Agronomy Society at the International Agronomy Congress. Dr. Sudhanshu Singh's work is making a significant impact in the field of agricultural sciences not only in India, but throughout South Asia.
