Caught cough syrup. Awakening

Jagran correspondent, Etawah. Friends Colony police station recovered 40 thousand vials of banned codeine-laced Viscof syrup being taken from Dehradun to Bihar from a mini truck near Gaurapura during checking on Thursday night. Police have also arrested three people traveling in a car from Bihar on charges of illegal smuggling of syrup, from whom they have recovered Rs 4 lakh 35 thousand in cash. The police took action against the three arrested persons and sent them to jail under the NDPS Act. The estimated value of the recovered syrup is around Rs 50 lakh. Buying or selling in large quantities is prohibited in the state of Bihar. Due to which it is feared that due to the ban on liquor in Bihar, the drug was being taken for consumption. Police and Drug Department have also informed Dehradun and Samastipur Police and Drug Department of Bihar to investigate the purchase and sale of syrup.

CO City Abhay Narayan Rai said that on Thursday night, Friends Colony Police Station Head Amit Mishra along with his SOG team was checking suspicious persons and vehicles at Bharthana intersection, when information was received that a mini truck was parked near Gaurapura village, which was loaded with banned syrup. Police caught three people, Vikas Kumar, son of Umashankar, resident of village Belamegh, police station Ujiarpur, Samastipur Bihar, Sonu Kumar, son of Sunil Kumar, resident of village Rampur Baghel, police station Sadhei, elderly Vaishali Bihar, from a car with Bihar number parked nearby along with the container. Arun Rai, son of Chandradev Rai, village Salempur Post Rampur Baghel Sadhei, elderly Vaishali Bihar. On searching, Rs 4 lakh 35 thousand in cash was recovered from the people caught along with 40 thousand bottles of banned cough syrup in 400 boxes from the container.

He told that the accused told that the cough syrup loaded in the container is theirs and they are purchasing it on e-bill from Bindlas Biotech Company of Dehradun, Uttarakhand and taking it to Divine Enterprises Company, IB Road, Dal Singh Sarai, Samastipur, Bihar. These people also showed the company's bills to the police and told that the driver brought the container back from the road and parked it in Etawah. When the police investigated closely, they found out that the syrup seized was prohibited from being bought in such large quantities in the state of Bihar. It can be sold and bought only in a certain quantity. On this, the police registered a case against the three under BNS under sections 8 of the NDPS Act i.e. not having a license, 21 i.e. carrying intoxicants and 22 i.e. exceeding the prescribed quantity and seized the mini truck and their car under section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

District Drug Inspector Nilesh Sharma said that the Viscof syrup recovered was laced with codeine. Generally, it is used for cough, cold and fever. But in Bihar there is a ban on selling this syrup in bulk and retail in such large quantities. He said that the documents, bill and e-way bill of the recovered syrup are currently correct. That is why letters have been sent to the drug departments of both the places from where the syrup was brought and where it was being taken, informing them as to why these people were buying and carrying such quantities of syrup. Also, samples of the syrup have been sent for testing to find out the amount of intoxication in it. The investigation report will come in 40 days.
