Jagran correspondent, Jamshedpur. A big picture of facilities and support for disabled people has emerged from East Singhbhum district. So far, 17 thousand 291 disabled people have been registered in the district, out of which Unique Disabled Identity Card (UDID card) has been issued to 15,292 people.

This identity card helps to connect them directly to government schemes, pension and other assistance. The highest number of cases of locomotor disability (difficulty in walking) have been registered in the district, whose number is 7100. After this, hearing loss (2245), intellectual disability (2019) are included in the main categories. Apart from this, categories like blindness (1583), mental illness (1419), cerebral palsy (224) and multiple disabilities (491) have also been registered in large numbers.

UDID card issue status

The facilities provided to the disabled are getting strengthened

UDID card gives an identity to the disabled people at the national level and makes it easier to connect them with government schemes. It was told by the Civil Surgeon Office that a target has been set to provide identity cards to 100 percent registered disabled people.

Special assistance for leprosy patients

UDID cards, disability certificates, crutches, walking sticks, MCR slippers and self-care kits are being distributed among the disabled leprosy patients by the District Leprosy Prevention Office. Disability can be prevented by timely identification of leprosy.

District Leprosy Prevention Officer Dr. Ranjit Kumar Panda said that disability caused by leprosy can be prevented with timely identification and treatment. Monthly assistance of Rs 500 is being given to leprosy patients, so that they can take MDT medicine regularly.

38 new patients found in door-to-door search campaign

District Leprosy Consultant Dr. Rajeev Lochan Mahato said that on the instructions of the Civil Surgeon, a door-to-door leprosy search campaign is being conducted from November 10. So far, 38 new leprosy patients have been identified and free MDT medicine has been provided to all. Investigation of suspected patients is ongoing and there is a need to increase its speed.

1479 Leprosy disabled person identified

A total of 1479 leprosy disabled persons have been identified in the district so far. These include Chakulia 75, Baharagora 162, Dhalbhumgarh 60, Ghatshila 71, Musabani 72, Dumaria 45, Potka 452, Jugsalai 76, Patmada 102 and 364 cases from urban areas and ashrams.
