Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. The Delhi government has taken a big and far-reaching decision to give a new direction to the higher education system of the capital. Narela will be developed as an education and innovation hub. Education Minister Ashish Sood said that the budget for this project has been increased from Rs 500 crore to Rs 1300 crore.

The Education Minister said that in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor, documents of about 12.69 acres and 22.43 acres of land in Narela have been handed over to Delhi Teachers University and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University at Lok Niwas. Earlier, documents of 50 acres of land had been given to Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University. With these allocations, the process of developing an integrated education hub on about 160 acres of land in Narela has gained momentum.

The process of payment to DDA is also progressing rapidly.

Ashish Sood said that the process of payment to DDA for land allotment is also progressing rapidly. About Rs 452 crore has been paid so far, while the remaining amount is targeted to be paid in this financial year. The government claims that there will be no delay in the project due to lack of financial resources.

According to the Education Minister, Narela Education City will not be just a group of educational buildings, but it will be developed on a common campus model based on global best practice. The Education Minister said that the strategic location of Narela also makes this project important. The construction work of Rithala-Narela Metro Corridor is in progress, which will improve the connectivity of the area. The establishment of universities will create large scale direct and indirect employment opportunities for teachers, non-teaching staff, hostel services and supporting sectors.

Made concrete and grassroots changes in higher and technical education as well

Ashish Sood claimed that in just 11 months of tenure, the Delhi government has made concrete and ground-breaking changes in school education as well as in higher and technical education. He said that this change is not limited to announcements only, but its impact is visible on the ground.
