More than 200 electric poles in Noida are in a dilapidated condition. Awakening
Swati Bhatia, Noida. Electric poles standing in the streets and sectors of the city have now become a source of danger rather than a sign of safety. These dilapidated pillars swinging crookedly from place to place can fall at any time and cause a major accident. Amidst the claims of smart city, this poor infrastructure is creating both fear and anger among the local people.
People say that despite complaints, the responsible departments are turning a blind eye. The situation becomes even more serious during strong wind or rain. More than 200 electric poles in the city are said to be in a bad condition, waiting for an accident.
The biggest danger in these sectors
Many pillars are leaning behind the State Bank and in front of Manav Rachna School in Sector 50. More than four pillars on Medanta Hospital Road are dilapidated. On the road leading from the metro station in Sector 101 towards Salalpur village, one pole is completely bent and about 20 poles are reported to be damaged. Poles are on the verge of falling at many places in Sector 18, 15, 20, 31 and 21A. A pole adjacent to a tree near Bal Bharti Public School can become the cause of an accident at any time.
On May 21, 2025, hundreds of poles fell on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway due to a dust storm, causing a traffic jam for hours. In June 2025, four people were injured and one died when a transformer fell from a dilapidated pole in Rilkha village of Dankaur. In August 2023, an employee died of electrocution outside ESI Hospital in Sector 24. In April 2022, a 40-feet high monopole fell on the road near Parthala roundabout.
Old infrastructure, corrosion at the base of pillars, open panel boxes and work without shutdown are the main reasons for this. Leaning poles can cause major accidents.

The street lights are also bad, and the smart city is only in name. Electricity Corporation is also the weakest in this matter. Electricity is being supplied from old infrastructure.- Anuradha
