Mahavir Yadav, Badshahpur. The cases of irregularities in electricity bills are not showing any signs of stopping in the city. The latest case has come to light from Heera Nagar area. Where the Electricity Corporation sent a bill of about Rs 74 lakh in the name of a vacant house.
The consumer is not only surprised after seeing the bill. In fact, he has also come under mental stress. Consumer Dharampal Singh, resident of Heera Nagar, practices in the district court. He says that he is paying his bill regularly in Kadipur subdivision of Electricity Corporation. The bill till October has been paid. Even after that a huge bill of Rs 74 lakh was sent.
Consumption of only 28 units in two months, still bill worth lakhs
The matter pertains to Kadipur subdivision of South Haryana Electricity Distribution Corporation. The subdivision has issued a bill of Rs 74,87,274.96 to the consumer in electricity bill account number 4336460000. The period of the bill is shown from April 8 to December 9.
Whereas the meter reading has been recorded only at 28.89 units. The consumer says that he had vacated the house on June 10. After that there was no use of electricity. Despite this, getting such a huge bill is beyond comprehension.
All bills were paid till October
Victim consumer advocate Dharampal Singh says that he has paid all the bills of the Electricity Corporation till October. However, the October bill seemed wrong to him. Therefore it was not paid. After this, on November 10, the old meter was replaced and a new meter was also installed. So that no disturbance happens in future. Despite this, bills and reminders of huge amounts are being sent continuously.
The matter reached the consumer district court
Advocate Dharampal Singh said that he got scared after seeing the bill of Rs 74 lakh. He says that this is clearly a serious flaw in the technical or billing system. He has approached the consumer district court regarding the matter and has demanded immediate improvement from the electricity corporation.
Such cases have come to light earlier also
This is not the first case. When a dispute has arisen regarding electricity bills. Even before this, complaints like bills worth thousands and lakhs on vacant houses, wrong reading after changing meters and recovery of arbitrary amount in the name of average billing have come to light from different areas of the city. These cases have raised serious questions on the billing system and monitoring system of the Electricity Corporation.
Growing concern among consumers
Due to such incidents continuously coming to light, there is an atmosphere of fear and confusion among the common consumers. People say that even for an empty house, a bill of lakhs can be incurred. So no one is safe. This case once again exposes the flaws in the electricity billing system. Jagdeep Rohilla, SDO of Kadipur Subdivision of Electricity Distribution Corporation, says that the irregularities in the bill are not a big deal. The bill will be rectified after checking the readings of the consumer.
