Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. Dense fog severely affected normal life in Odisha's twin cities Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Tuesday morning. Due to the fog that prevailed in the early hours, visibility on the roads was greatly reduced, due to which the speed of vehicles slowed down and passengers had to face a lot of trouble.
There was a thick layer of fog in Bhubaneswar since morning. In many areas the situation became such that nothing in front was clearly visible. Visibility on national highways and major roads became extremely low, forcing drivers to move at a crawl with headlights and fog lights on.
Traffic remained disrupted during office hours and people could not reach their destinations on time. Local people described it as a blanket of white smoke covering the city. The situation was no different in Cuttack also. Here too, dense fog slowed down the pace of the morning.
Vehicles were seen moving very carefully on the main roads and highways. Due to fog, school going children, office workers and everyday commuters had to struggle a lot.
The effect of dense fog was clearly visible in the pilgrimage city of Puri. In the morning the entire city remained wrapped in a blanket of fog. The world famous Shri Jagannath Temple was also seen partially hidden in the fog.
Visibility reduced to just 50 meters in some areas. Due to bad weather, tourist traffic was also very less in the morning.
According to the Meteorological Department, the intensity of fog has increased in Odisha due to increased cold in recent times. Cold and fog have been persistent in the morning hours in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for the last few days, which is the result of the prevailing atmospheric conditions. The administration has appealed to the drivers to exercise special caution while traveling in the morning, use fog lights and maintain a safe distance, so that any kind of accident can be avoided.
