Piyush Dubey, Pilibhit. Anees Ahmed Khan alias Phoolbabu, who was MLA of Bisalpur thrice, has now become SP. With his support, SP will try to fill the void of former minister Haji Riyaz Ahmed in the district. Along with this, she will leave no stone unturned to make inroads among the Muslims in the border districts of Bisalpur town, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur.
Phoolbabu, who became a part of the SP camp on Sunday after doing political journey in BSP and Congress, will also have a challenge to prove himself. He has not been able to win any election since 2007.
Three times MLA from Bisalpur, stuck in turmoil after 2007
Phoolbabu had inherited politics. His father Shafi Ahmed Khan was the chairman of Bisalpur Municipality. When he died in 1988, Phoolbabu had become the chairman of Bisalpur at the age of 22. Once he won the election of Municipal President, he had to wait a long time for the next victory. He joined BSP in the year 1991. In the year 1996, he became the MLA from Bisalpur for the first time and then got the status of Minister of State along with becoming the Chairman of UP Agro.
After playing a long innings in BSP, he joined Congress, now joined SP
After this, he contested Lok Sabha elections from Pilibhit in 1998 and 1999 but could not win. In the year 2002, after becoming MLA for the second time on BSP ticket, he was made the Minister of State for Agriculture with independent charge. After winning for the third time in 2007, he was made the Minister of Minority and Haj. After this, I struggled many times but got disappointed. Joined Congress and contested the 2012 and 2017 assembly elections but lost.
Similarly, he returned to BSP in 2024 and contested elections from Pilibhit parliamentary seat but was rejected by the public. After this, he started carving a new niche for politics and joined SP.
Another Muslim face in Bareilly division
SP has two Muslim MLAs in Bareilly district, Shahjil Islam from Bhojipura and Ataur Rehman from Baheri. Ataur Rahman is also the general secretary of the organization. Now the party has added Phoolbabu as another Muslim face. The reason for this is that after the death of Haji Riyaz Ahmed, there was a lack of a big Muslim face in Pilibhit. Phool Babu has been MLA thrice. Its assembly seat is adjacent to Tilhar and Nigohi of Shahjahanpur, Bithri Chainpur, Faridpur and Nawabganj seats of Bareilly.
