England cricket team disappointed with its performance
MELBOURNE (AP) — England men's cricket team managing director Rob Key has said he will investigate the England team for alcohol abuse after reports of excessive alcohol consumption during a holiday at a beach resort during the Ashes series against Australia.
England's performance so far in the current series has been disappointing and they had to face defeat in all three Test matches, allowing Australia to retain the Ashes. England has not been able to win a single Test match in Australia in the last 18 matches. It won its last series in Australia in 2010–11.
no problem with brakes
After the second Test, the England team spent four nights at a resort in Noosa, a city north of Brisbane, during the break before the third Test. It was part of his program though. Rob Key said he had no problem with the break, but would investigate if he found evidence of excessive indulgence. If things come to light that our players drank excessive alcohol, we will definitely investigate it. this is unacceptable.
Rob Key said: "I would not expect an international cricket team at any level to consume excessive amounts of alcohol and I would be remiss if I did not investigate what happened there." But from what I've heard so far, it seems he was very well behaved. He said that we have enough ways to find out what really happened. From what I've heard so far, they sat down, had lunch, had dinner, didn't go out late at night, etc. He also drank some alcohol. I have no objection to this. If things go further than this then as far as I am concerned it will become an issue.
Investigation was done even before the Ashes
Rob Key also said that he had previously investigated reports that players had been seen drinking alcohol on the night before a match in New Zealand ahead of the Ashes. A video clip of England limited-overs team captain Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell was shared on the internet media, which is said to have been made ahead of the third ODI in Wellington on November 1.
