Establishment of agricultural cooperative societies accelerated, 27 percent target achieved
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that so far 8,710 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) have been established across the country during 2024-25 and 2025-26, achieving 27 percent of the set target.
Shah, in his written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, said the government has set a target of creating 32,752 PACS during the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26. A total of 8,710 PACS have been formed so far against the target, which represents an achievement of about 27 percent at the national level in this two-year period.
The highest number of PACS were installed in Odisha (1,543) during this period. This was followed by Rajasthan (1,387), Uttar Pradesh (1,099), Madhya Pradesh (621) and Uttarakhand (621). About 525 PACS were set up in Gujarat, 469 each in Assam and Chhattisgarh, 149 in Maharashtra and 116 in Himachal Pradesh.
Shah also informed that PACS has been authorized to operate Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK), operate and maintain piped water supply schemes and undertake retail fuel outlets and LPG distribution.
Standard Operating Procedures for Government Drone Technology
The government has prepared standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the use of drone technology in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, in his written reply in the Rajya Sabha, said his ministry has taken an initiative to promote the use of drone technology in fisheries and aquaculture.
“This is a unique initiative to introduce drone applications in fish and shrimp transportation, monitoring, disease surveillance and food spraying in the fisheries sector,” he said.
