Jagran correspondent, Sahibabad. If you are taking medicine for any disease and your health starts feeling fine, then do not stop taking the medicine. Complete the course of medicine for the number of days prescribed by the doctor. If you stop taking the medicine midway then even taking antibiotics will not destroy the bad bacteria and the good bacteria will also get spoiled. Due to this, the antibiotic medicine will stop working, leading to anti-microbial resistance.

All these things were told to the people by Chhavi Gupta, senior doctor of Yashoda Medicity Hospital, during the 'Attack on AMR' awareness program jointly organized by Dainik Jagran and Indian Medical Association at Express Garden Society, Indirapuram on Saturday.

The doctor told that even in case of minor illnesses like cough, cold, mild fever, diarrhea, people take antibiotics themselves. Many times people take antibiotics thinking it is a medicine for a normal disease. Many times they even buy it from the medical store and eat it themselves. By doing this one has to suffer huge loss instead of profit. Even those medicines which are taken on the advice of a doctor, when they feel beneficial, they leave them without completing the course.

In all these circumstances, a major disease takes form, due to which the effect of antibiotics is lost. Then in case of any disease the medicine has no effect. Because even good bacteria gets converted into bad bacteria. This is called AMR (antimicrobial resistance). That is why whenever you take medicine, take it only on the advice of a doctor. Also, complete the course for the number of days prescribed by the doctor.
