Law correspondent, Varanasi. Special Judge II (POCSO Act) Nitin Pandey on Tuesday convicted the accused Firoz Ahmed alias Pappu, resident of Faridpur village of Rohaniya police station area, in the case of raping an eight-year-old innocent girl who had come to the shop to buy goods.
The court sentenced him to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 21,000. In case of non-payment of fine, the accused will have to face additional imprisonment of one year.
After the accused pays the fine, the court has ordered the entire amount to be given to the victim. Special Public Prosecutor Santosh Kumar Singh, appearing for the prosecution in the court, examined six witnesses including the victim.
According to the prosecution, on October 7, 2022, in the morning, an eight-year-old innocent girl had gone to the shop of accused Firoz Ahmed to buy some items. The accused molested her. After coming home, the victim narrated her ordeal to her family members.
On this, the victim's father lodged an FIR against the accused Firoz Ahmed in the police station on the same day. Along with conducting medical examination of the victim, the police recorded her written statement in the court and arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
The court punished the accused after the evidence available on file and medical examination confirmed that he had raped the victim. The accused is in jail since his arrest.
