Due to dense fog, visibility was less than 10 meters in the morning, affecting traffic on the roads.
Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. The weather in the Tricity increased the problems of the people since Sunday morning. Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali remained under the grip of dense fog till 10 am. Visibility was less than 10 meters at many places, due to which traffic on the roads was affected and common people had to face problems in commuting. At the same time, light sunshine was seen in some areas, which brought some relief to the people.
After the sun came out, people started visiting places like Sukhna Lake, City Plaza and Rock Garden. But the real danger of the weather was seen in air quality. Chandigarh's air quality index was recorded above 220, which falls in the poor category.
The air quality remained poor in Mohali also. According to experts, due to cold, humidity and slow wind speed, pollutant particles remained trapped in the atmosphere, due to which air pollution further increased. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert regarding dense fog for the next two days.
According to the Meteorological Department, Sunday's maximum temperature was recorded at 21.7 degrees Celsius, which was 5.6 degrees below normal. Experts have advised citizens to remain alert and take care of safety while leaving the house in the morning and late night.
Additionally, it has been advised to avoid traveling long distances in polluted air and wear a mask. The constantly changing weather and increasing air pollution in the Tricity have not only endangered health but also affected daily life and traffic.
