Digital Desk, New Delhi. Air travel has been badly affected due to dense fog in North India. There was a major impact on Delhi Airport due to low visibility on Tuesday, where hundreds of passengers were troubled.

Due to fog, flights are getting delayed, many have been canceled and some have had to be sent to other airports. Taking immediate action, the Civil Aviation Ministry has given strict instructions to the airlines to take full care of the convenience of the passengers.

The ministry has appealed to passengers to check their flight status in advance, maintain contact with the airline and allow extra time to reach the airport. The ministry says that they are monitoring the situation and the safety and convenience of passengers is paramount.

Bad condition of flights at Delhi airport

118 flights were canceled at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday due to fog. This includes 60 incoming and 58 outgoing flights. Apart from this, 16 flights were diverted to other airports and about 130 flights were delayed. Visibility was very low in the morning, affecting operations.

According to airport officials, only flights with CAT III facility can operate in low visibility, the rest are being affected. Delhi Airport posted on social media in the morning that all operations are normal, but non-CAT III flights may be affected.

Strict instructions to airlines

The Civil Aviation Ministry has instructed all airlines to strictly follow the rules related to passenger convenience.

These include providing timely flight information, providing food in case of delay, rebooking or providing full refund in case of cancellation, not denying boarding to those who check-in on time, baggage allowance and prompt resolution of complaints. The Ministry clearly said that the safety, convenience and well-being of passengers is of utmost importance. They are keeping a close eye on the entire situation.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) has also made special arrangements for passengers. Support teams have been deployed at the affected airports, which are helping passengers on the ground. AAI said that flights may be affected due to fog, so passengers should stay in touch with their airlines and allow more time to reach the airport.

AAI has also shared customer support numbers of major airlines, like IndiGo: 0124 497 3838, Air India: 011 6932 9333, SpiceJet: +91 (0)124 498 3410 / +91 (0)124 710 1600, and others. With this, passengers can get easy help.
