Meanwhile, Union Minister and Republican Party of India chief Ramdas Athawale has expressed dissatisfaction with the seat. He has said that he has not got seats in many cities.

Ramdas Athawale said, "We were not given seats in many cities like Nagpur, Amravati and Aurangabad. We were not given a single seat in Nalasopara. RPI got one seat in Bhiwandi. Not a single seat was given in Kalyan-Dombivli. Therefore, BJP has tried to ignore RPI at many places. BJP wants to expand its party, but it should also think about our party. In this election, BJP will field its candidates on 137 seats and Shiv Sena on 90 seats. The agreement on seat sharing was reached after intense talks on Monday, a day before the last date for filing nomination papers on December 30. There are total 227 seats in BMC. Ajit Pawar-led NCP, another constituent of Mahayuti, is contesting the elections separately. NCP has so far announced 64 candidates for the BMC elections. Elections for 29 municipal corporations of Maharashtra including Mumbai will be held on January 15 and counting of votes will begin the next day.

In the 2017 BMC elections, the BJP performed brilliantly in the Shiv Sena bastion, winning 82 seats, which was just two seats less than the undivided Shiv Sena. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale's party RPI has threatened to contest the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections alone, citing lukewarm response from the BJP and Shiv Sena.
