Communication Associate, Bajpur. The team of Terai Central Forest Division Rudrapur encountered forest smugglers in Barhaini area on Saturday morning. In the encounter, five rounds of bullets were fired from both sides, but taking advantage of the forest area, the smugglers escaped.
At 6 am on Saturday morning, the Forest Department received information that a dozen smugglers were cutting in the forest area. The team formed under the instructions of Divisional Forest Officer Umesh Chandra Tiwari and leadership of Deputy Divisional Forest Officer Maninder Kaur chased the smugglers. When the forest personnel tried to surround the smugglers, the bikes laden with Khair's gilts became unbalanced and fell, as soon as they fell, the smugglers fired four rounds at the team, in response the forest department team also fired one round.
However, till the time of writing the news, there is no information about anyone being injured. On receiving information about the encounter, teams of Forest Department from other areas also reached Barhaini range and the houses of possible smugglers are being raided. In this operation, 20 pieces of Khair wood and three bikes used in smuggling were seized.
The Forest Department registered a case against the named accused, Daljeet, resident of Harsan Thapkanagala and four unknown smugglers. In this joint action, Forest Range Officer Barhaini Krishna Singh Mehra, Puran Chandra Joshi (Pipalpadav), Jagdish Chandra Joshi (Gadgadiya), Terai Central Forest Division Rudrapur SOG Forest Inspector Thakur Dutt Dhyani, Forest Guard Aditya Singh, Anil Thayat, Vivek Goswami, Sagar Pal and others were present.
