Kamlesh Sharma, Jagran, Bareilly. Vehicle challans are being issued repeatedly through CCTV cameras installed at major intersections of the city, but vehicle owners are not paying them. The traffic police has sent a list of 5,000 such vehicles to the transport department. The Transport Department has blacklisted all these vehicles.
Renewal of vehicle registration and transfer of vehicle will not be possible. The process can be started only after the pending challan is deposited. High security numbers are being installed on all vehicles by the Transport Department. The advantage of this is that through CCTV cameras installed at intersections and highways, online challans are being issued for violating traffic rules.
Vehicle challans are being issued in abundance, but people are not paying the challans. The traffic police has sent a list of five thousand such vehicles to the transport department, which have been challaned more than three times. Challans have been issued more than 50 times for many of these vehicles.
Such a list has been sent to the transport department by the traffic police earlier also, but it was completed by sending a notice. This time RTO has blacklisted these vehicles. The Transport Department has now given instructions to take more strict action against vehicles repeatedly violating rules in enforcement action.
Accident prone areas will be marked at Gram Panchayat level
To reduce road accidents, the Transport Department is preparing to celebrate Road Safety Month from January 1 to take enforcement action and to make people aware. It is a matter of relief for Bareilly that in the ranking released at the state level, it is at the top i.e. 75th position in terms of preventing road accidents.
Badaun is at 64th and Shahjahanpur at 63rd position, although the situation in Pilibhit is not satisfactory. To reduce accidents by making the society aware, the Transport Department has started the innovation of Village Road Safety Committee. Village road safety committees are being formed in 4017 gram panchayats of the division and are being transformed into a mass movement. Till now 23,000 volunteers have been included in it.
An action plan has been made to take the number to 40,000. These committees will identify accident prone areas. It will reach the divisional committee through block, tehsil, district committee. The corrective works costing up to Rs 10,000 will be done at the Gram Panchayat level, but budget will be made available for corrective works costing more than Rs 10,000.
Five thousand vehicles included in the list of vehicles repeatedly challaned by the traffic police have been blacklisted. An innovation has been started to launch a mass movement at the Gram Panchayat level to prevent road accidents. Village road safety committees are being formed in every village. Major and minor causes of accidents will be identified and corrective work will be done there. Only by bringing awareness in the society, untimely deaths in road accidents can be avoided.
