Law correspondent, Deoria. Former IPS Amitabh Thakur, detained in the district jail in a fraud case, has made serious allegations against the functioning and honesty of the Kotwali police. He has given an application in the court saying that the police has not returned the entire money and goods recovered at the time of his arrest. Taking the matter seriously, the court has sought a report from the inspector in-charge of Deoria police station.

Former IPS Amitabh Thakur is detained in the district jail since December 10, 2025 in the case of fraudulently allotting an industrial plot in the name of his wife Nutan Thakur in the year 1999. He has filed an application in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Manju Kumari and said that at the time of his arrest, the Kotwali police had recovered Rs 42 thousand in cash, two mobile phones and a toothpaste from him. Later, on the orders of the court, the police had to hand over all the recovered items to his advocate Atul Kumar.

It is alleged that the police returned only Rs 7208 out of Rs 42 thousand, while the remaining amount and toothpaste were not returned. Along with this, the locks of both the mobile phones were also found broken. In this regard, the former IPS again applied in the court and lodged a complaint that the police was deliberately not returning all his belongings.

During the hearing of the case, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in-charge Shailja Mishra, considering the matter as serious, ordered the inspector in-charge of the police station to submit a detailed report by January 23.
